Kiku-zukushi 菊尽くし Vintage Obi Silk Tote in Ivory Multi
Kiku-zukushi 菊尽くし Vintage Obi Silk Tote in Ivory Multi
Product Description
A vibrant expression of Japanese ceremonial silk and modern structure, this statement tote is handcrafted in Japan from a vintage 100% silk fukuro obi — a formal kimono sash traditionally worn for ceremonial dress.
Set against a luminous ivory-white ground, large kiku-zukushi chrysanthemum motifs unfold in vivid shades of red, orange, purple, green, gold, and silver. The layered floral composition creates a festive yet refined rhythm, while the metallic weaving adds depth, brightness, and a distinctly Japanese ceremonial presence.
With its clean structured silhouette and colorful chrysanthemum palette, the bag brings an artful accent to simple outfits, elegant daywear, polished casual looks, and festive styling. It is vivid, but not overly ornate — a piece that balances traditional textile richness with a modern, wearable form.
Each piece is made from a carefully selected vintage obi, allowing the textile’s original pattern placement, color depth, and woven character to become part of a modern wearable object.
Why It’s Special
• Vintage silk fukuro obi — upcycled from a formal Japanese kimono sash selected for its luminous ivory-white ground, metallic weaving, and colorful chrysanthemum composition.
• Kiku-zukushi chrysanthemum design — multiple chrysanthemum motifs appear across the textile, creating a rich and celebratory floral expression.
• Colorful yet refined palette — red, orange, purple, green, gold, silver, and ivory combine to create a vivid but balanced statement.
• Metallic woven details — gold and silver threads add brightness, depth, and ceremonial elegance.
• Vintage obijime handles — paired with vintage obijime cords chosen to harmonize with the textile’s warm metallic tones.
• Structured silhouette — full firm interfacing and an inserted base board help the bag maintain its clean architectural form.
• Handcrafted in Japan — carefully made by an experienced Japanese artisan with attention to structure, balance, and textile preservation.
• One-of-a-kind — each vintage obi has its own pattern placement and textile character, so the exact same piece cannot be reproduced.

Behind the Craft
Each bag is created through a cross-generational craft process.
Ayako, a couture sample seamstress with over 40 years of experience, leads the making. Yuko, trained in kimono and luxury fur tailoring, advises on textile handling. Ayuko, the brand founder and former corporate consultant, designs each piece by translating Japan’s tacit artisanal knowledge into structured modernity.
The result is a small-batch object that preserves the character of vintage Japanese silk while giving it a sharp, contemporary form.
Notes on Vintage Textiles
This bag is made from carefully selected vintage obi and obijime cords. Subtle age-related marks, slight discoloration, thread irregularities, or signs of previous textile storage may remain. These are part of the history and authenticity of the material, and do not affect normal use.
Because this piece features a light-colored textile ground, subtle vintage marks or tonal variations may be slightly more visible than on darker obi fabrics.
Photos are taken with a Nikon DSLR in natural daylight without flash. Actual colors may vary slightly depending on indoor lighting and display settings.
