Duties & Taxes

United States

Under AYUKO TOKYO’s current shipping arrangement for the United States, applicable U.S. import duties are prepaid before dispatch. Those applicable duties are not collected from the recipient upon delivery.

European Union

Prices for orders shipped to the European Union do not include import VAT, customs duties, or other import charges. AYUKO TOKYO does not currently collect EU import VAT or customs duties at Shopify checkout. Orders are shipped from Japan on a DAP (Delivered at Place) basis. Applicable import VAT at the rate of the destination country, together with any applicable customs duties, customs clearance fees, carrier handling fees, or other import charges, may be assessed upon import and are payable by the recipient.

Other Destinations

For destinations outside the United States and European Union, duties, VAT, taxes, customs charges, brokerage fees, or handling fees that are not collected at checkout may be assessed by local authorities or the delivery carrier. Unless applicable law requires otherwise, these charges are the responsibility of the recipient.

Customs Processing

Customs authorities may inspect a shipment or request information from the recipient before releasing it. Customs processing can delay delivery and is outside AYUKO TOKYO’s direct control.

We declare shipment contents and values accurately and cannot declare a lower value or describe a commercial purchase as a gift.

Refused or Unclaimed Shipments

If a shipment is refused or remains unclaimed, the carrier or customs authority may return it to AYUKO TOKYO. Any refund or reshipment will be considered only after the returned item has been received and inspected.

Actual return shipping, customs, or handling charges incurred because a shipment was refused or not collected may be deducted from any refund where permitted by applicable law. This does not apply when the delivery problem results from an error by AYUKO TOKYO and does not limit any right or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded or waived.

Brand Philosophy

Each item is designed to be worn and lived with.

Not only for special occasions, but for the quiet moments in everyday life—
small harenohi (晴れの日)—
when what you wear gives you a subtle sense of confidence, calm, or joy.

We work with materials and techniques that carry time within them.

Rather than consuming them, we reconstruct and pass them forward—
allowing each piece to continue its story with a new owner.

Timeless, borderless, and genderless by intention, not by trend.

We believe in design with purpose, rooted in history, and created to evolve with the life of the person who carries it.
