Vintage Komon Silk Detachable Collar Tie — Indigo 本藍 Kiku-Karakusa 菊唐草文
Vintage Komon Silk Detachable Collar Tie — Indigo 本藍 Kiku-Karakusa 菊唐草文
Product Description
A refined reinterpretation of vintage Japanese silk, classic neckwear, and the detachable collar — this handcrafted piece is made from a high-quality vintage 100% silk komon kimono, featuring natural indigo dye and traditional stencil-dyed patterning.
The design brings together the crisp language of 19th-century detachable collars with the Japanese concept of date-eri / kasane-eri — a decorative layered collar used in formal kimono styling to add color, elegance, and refinement to the neckline.
Reimagined as a tie-integrated detachable collar, this piece is not a separate necktie and collar, but one integrated styling accessory. It can be worn over shirts, knitwear, dresses, jackets, or coats, adding a distinctive yet composed accent to the neckline.
The collar section is made from the patterned outer side of the vintage komon kimono, featuring a deep indigo-blue ground with a traditional kiku-karakusa motif — chrysanthemums intertwined with flowing arabesque vines.
For the tie section, a rare indigo-gradient portion from the reverse side of the same komon fabric has been carefully selected. The tie widens gently from the neckline toward the blade, creating a flowing line that feels closer to classic neckwear while preserving the elegance of a styling collar.

About the Design
Detachable collars were once an essential part of tailored dress, allowing the neckline to be changed, refreshed, and styled independently from the shirt itself.
In Japanese kimono styling, date-eri / kasane-eri is a decorative layered collar used to create the appearance of wearing multiple kimono layers, often adding color, elegance, and a sense of formality to the neckline.
This piece reinterprets these two ideas through vintage Japanese silk. The structured collar recalls the clarity of classic Western dress, while the indigo-gradient tie accent reflects the Japanese sensibility of adding color, depth, and subtle contrast around the neckline.
It is designed not as a historical reproduction, but as a modern styling piece that connects classic tailoring with Japanese textile artistry.
