Vintage Obi Silk Detachable Collar Tie — Standing Waves & Arrow Feather Motifs 矢羽根立波文
Vintage Obi Silk Detachable Collar Tie — Standing Waves & Arrow Feather Motifs 矢羽根立波文
Product Description
A refined reinterpretation of vintage Japanese silk, classic neckwear, and the detachable collar — this handcrafted piece is made from a high-quality vintage 100% silk obi.
The design brings together the crisp language of 19th-century detachable collars with the Japanese concept of date-eri / kasane-eri — a decorative layered collar used in formal kimono styling to add color, elegance, and refinement to the neckline.
Reimagined as a tie-integrated detachable collar, this piece is not a separate necktie and collar, but one integrated styling accessory. It can be worn over shirts, knitwear, dresses, jackets, or coats, adding a distinctive yet composed accent to the neckline.
The collar section is made from the patterned outer side of the vintage silk obi, showcasing traditional Japanese motifs including standing waves and arrow-feather patterns. The graphic rhythm of the textile gives the piece a refined, dynamic presence, while the multicolor palette of deep green, burgundy, gold, cream, black, and red can feel preppy, elegant, or quietly poetic depending on how it is styled.
For the tie section, a matcha-green portion from the reverse side of the same obi has been carefully selected, creating a calm contrast against the richly patterned collar.

About the Design
Detachable collars were once an essential part of tailored dress, allowing the neckline to be changed, refreshed, and styled independently from the shirt itself.
In Japanese kimono styling, date-eri / kasane-eri is a decorative layered collar used to create the appearance of wearing multiple kimono layers, often adding color, elegance, and a sense of formality to the neckline.
This piece reinterprets these two ideas through vintage Japanese silk obi. The structured collar recalls the clarity of classic Western dress, while the matcha-green tie accent reflects the Japanese sensibility of adding color, depth, and quiet contrast around the neckline.
It is designed not as a historical reproduction, but as a modern styling piece that connects classic tailoring with Japanese textile artistry.
