Kiku-zukushi 菊尽くし Vintage Obi Silk Tote in Navy Silver Gold
Kiku-zukushi 菊尽くし Vintage Obi Silk Tote in Navy Silver Gold
Product Description
A refined expression of Japanese ceremonial silk and modern structure, this statement tote is handcrafted in Japan from a vintage 100% silk fukuro obi — a formal kimono sash traditionally worn for ceremonial dress.
Across the surface, a rich kiku-zukushi chrysanthemum composition unfolds in deep navy, luminous silver, warm gold, ivory, and vivid red accents. The overlapping chrysanthemum motifs create a festive yet refined rhythm, while the metallic weaving gives the piece depth, brightness, and a distinctly Japanese ceremonial presence.
Carefully structured to stand beautifully on its own, the bag balances decorative richness with everyday functionality. Its navy, silver, and gold palette pairs beautifully with classic styling, elegant daywear, polished casual looks, and simple outfits that need one strong textile accent.
Each piece is made from a carefully selected vintage obi, allowing the textile’s original composition, color depth, and woven character to become part of a modern wearable object.
Why It’s Special
• Vintage silk fukuro obi — upcycled from a formal Japanese kimono sash selected for its chrysanthemum motifs, metallic weaving, and refined navy-silver-gold palette.
• Kiku-zukushi chrysanthemum design — multiple chrysanthemum motifs overlap across the textile, creating a rich and celebratory floral composition.
• Navy, silver, and gold palette — deep navy adds structure and contrast, while silver and gold threads bring brightness and ceremonial elegance.
• Thoughtful interior detail — the inner pocket features a woven chrysanthemum motif that subtly echoes the outer fabric’s full chrysanthemum pattern.
• Functional craftsmanship — fully structured with firm interfacing, an inserted base board, and magnetic closure so the bag stands beautifully on its own.
• Vintage obijime handles — paired with vintage obijime cords, adding a traditional Japanese detail to the clean modern silhouette.
• Handcrafted in Japan — carefully made by an experienced Japanese artisan with attention to structure, balance, and textile preservation.
• One-of-a-kind — each vintage obi has its own pattern placement and textile character, so the exact same piece cannot be reproduced.

Behind the Craft
Each bag is created through a cross-generational craft process.
Ayako, a couture sample seamstress with over 40 years of experience, leads the making. Yuko, trained in kimono and luxury fur tailoring, advises on textile handling. Ayuko, the brand founder and former corporate consultant, designs each piece by translating Japan’s tacit artisanal knowledge into structured modernity.
The result is a small-batch object that preserves the character of vintage Japanese silk while giving it a sharp, contemporary form.
Notes on Vintage Textiles
This bag is made from carefully selected vintage obi and obijime cords. Subtle age-related marks, slight discoloration, thread irregularities, or signs of previous textile storage may remain. These are part of the history and authenticity of the material, and do not affect normal use.
Due to the original vintage obi’s thick weave, slight irregularities or subtle waviness may be visible along the stitched areas.
Photos are taken with a Nikon DSLR in natural daylight without flash. Actual colors may vary slightly depending on indoor lighting and display settings.
