Rangiku 乱菊 Chrysanthemum Vintage Obi Silk Tote in Indigo Orange
Rangiku 乱菊 Chrysanthemum Vintage Obi Silk Tote in Indigo Orange
Product Description
A refined fusion of Japanese ceremonial silk and modern structure, this statement tote is handcrafted in Japan from a vintage 100% silk fukuro obi — a formal kimono sash traditionally worn for ceremonial dress.
Set against a deep indigo-blue ground, a vivid orange rangiku chrysanthemum unfolds with bold sweeping movement. The fiery orange petals create a striking contrast against the cool navy base, while subtle metallic details add depth and quiet luminosity.
With its clean structured silhouette and bold indigo-orange palette, the bag brings a sharp, modern accent to simple outfits, polished casual looks, mode-inspired styling, and elegant day-to-evening wardrobes.
Each piece is made from a carefully selected vintage obi, allowing the textile’s original composition, color depth, and woven character to become part of a modern wearable object.
Why It’s Special
• Vintage silk fukuro obi — upcycled from a formal Japanese kimono sash selected for its deep indigo ground, vivid orange rangiku motif, and refined woven detail.
• Rangiku chrysanthemum motif — the large sweeping chrysanthemum creates movement, energy, and strong visual presence.
• Indigo and orange palette — the contrast between cool navy and vivid orange gives the piece a bold yet polished character.
• Coordinated obijime handles — paired with vintage obijime cords in warm orange tones that harmonize with the chrysanthemum motif.
• Structured silhouette — full firm interfacing and an inserted base board help the bag maintain its clean architectural form.
• Handcrafted in Japan — carefully made by an experienced Japanese artisan with attention to structure, balance, and textile preservation.
• One-of-a-kind — each vintage obi has its own pattern placement and textile character, so the exact same piece cannot be reproduced.

Behind the Craft
Each bag is created through a cross-generational craft process.
Ayako, a couture sample seamstress with over 40 years of experience, leads the making. Yuko, trained in kimono and luxury fur tailoring, advises on textile handling. Ayuko, the brand founder and former corporate consultant, designs each piece by translating Japan’s tacit artisanal knowledge into structured modernity.
The result is a small-batch object that preserves the character of vintage Japanese silk while giving it a sharp, contemporary form.
Notes on Vintage Textiles
This bag is made from carefully selected vintage obi and obijime cords. Subtle age-related marks, slight discoloration, thread irregularities, or signs of previous textile storage may remain. These are part of the history and authenticity of the material, and do not affect normal use.
