Vintage Obi A-Line Mini Skirt in Deep Navy Floral
Vintage Obi A-Line Mini Skirt in Deep Navy Floral
Product Description
A structured A-line mini skirt handcrafted in Japan from a vintage fukuro obi — a formal kimono sash traditionally worn for ceremonial dress.
This piece combines smooth deep navy panels with vintage obi panels featuring classical Japanese floral motifs in burnt orange, ivory, muted gold, and soft metallic tones. The contrast between the calm navy base and the ornate obi textile creates a refined, tailored look with a distinctly Japanese presence.
Designed with a clean A-line silhouette, the skirt sits beautifully at the high or mid waist and pairs well with tailored shirts, bow-tie blouses, structured coats, sheer tights, loafers, heels, or ankle boots.
Because each skirt is made from a carefully selected vintage obi, the pattern placement and textile character are unique to this piece and cannot be reproduced in exactly the same way.

The obi used for this piece was originally woven for formal kimono attire. Its metallic threads and traditional Japanese floral motifs give the skirt depth, texture, and a ceremonial quality that cannot be replicated in exactly the same way today.
Behind the Craft
This skirt is created by reworking a vintage ceremonial obi into a modern tailored garment.
The original obi textile is carefully selected, cut, and placed so that the woven pattern becomes part of the garment’s structure rather than a surface decoration. Due to the dense structure and delicacy of vintage obi, the fabric requires careful handling and precise sewing to preserve the integrity of the textile.
The result is a wearable fusion of Japanese formal textile heritage and contemporary tailoring.
Early Production Notes
This skirt is from an early production stage. Please note the following differences compared with later versions:
• The waist is fixed at 67 cm, as this piece uses an early hook construction rather than the later three-position hook system.
• Interior finishing is done with zigzag stitching instead of the later overlock / serger finish.
• The skirt length is 44 cm, approximately 2 cm longer than later designs.
These details are reflected in the product specification.
Notes on Vintage Textiles
This skirt is made from vintage silk obi fabric. Subtle age-related marks, thread irregularities, slight discoloration, or signs of previous textile storage may remain. These are part of the textile’s history and authenticity.
